Paying tribute to David Bigmore
Widely respected franchise lawyer David Bigmore sadly passed away on Saturday 28th March.
From 1986 David specialised and was involved in all aspects of franchising. He was an original Member of the British Franchise Association’s Legal Committee and was the Specialist Advisor to the association on the Trading Schemes Act 1996 and negotiated the provision of the Act with the Government.
Whilst David mainly worked from a lovely village just outside of Chester, he dealt with franchising all over the world and was a staunch supporter and regular contributor to the BFA.
David Bigmore & Co was recognised as one of the leading firms in franchising winning, “Sole Practitioner of the Year” in 2004 in Wales at the Welsh Law Awards. In that year the firm was also awarded the “Franchising Law Firm of the Year in the UK” by Corporate INTL Magazine and as “Franchise Advisory Firm of the Year” in 2010 in the Global Awards of the same magazine.
David retired on the 30th September last year due to ill health, with Owen White Solicitors taking on his client base.
Pip Wilkins, BFA CEO, said, “David had a huge personality and a big heart. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him in the franchise sector. Our thoughts are with his family at this time”.
