Accommodation

All bedrooms at Worcester are furnished in line with the Universities UK Code of Practice guidelines and include a bed and mattress, study desk, chair and ample storage space. Some rooms will also contain extra furnishings. All student rooms have broadband internet access via Wi-Fi and some also have ethernet points.

You will need to provide your own bedding and can either bring items from home or buy it online from UniKitOut to be delivered to the College ahead of your arrival. If you choose the latter option, use the code WORCOX10 at checkout to receive a 10% discount. Make sure to provide your name and status (e.g. undergraduate) and choose the delivery address: Worcester College, Walton Street, Oxford, OX1 2HB.

Rent is charged in advance at the start of each term. The charge covers your room and utilities but not other domestic costs like meals and laundry. More details are available on the individual undergraduate accommodation and graduate accommodation pages.

We allocate first-year rooms in line with the preferences you give us on your accommodation preferences form submitted before arrival. In subsequent years, you’ll be able to choose your preferred room, either individually or as part of a group of friends at the annual room draw. If you have any special requirements (e.g. due to illness, disability or religious practice) please write to the Welfare Team in advance and we’ll do our best to allocate you a suitable room.

Standard College rental contracts are for less than 180 nights per year, covering only the three University terms. In the vacations, UK students will take all of their possessions home so it’s a good idea to pack light. We have a limited amount of storage space available which is available to international students only.

Due to fire regulations, kitchen equipment is only allowed in communal kitchens and not in individual bedrooms. This includes toasters, sandwich makers, slow cookers, rice cookers, hot plates and grills. If your room does not have a shared kitchen available, the College serves breakfast and lunch (or brunch) and dinner every day during term.

Parking is available for moving-in and moving-out days but there are no parking facilities available for students during term. We are, however, able to offer disabled parking spaces for up to two students at any one time. All of the University buildings are close by and easy to access on foot or by bicycle.

All students need to be in residence by the Thursday of the week preceding the start of term (which begins on a Sunday – check the dates on the University website). Undergraduate freshers usually arrive on the Tuesday of this week and returning students on the Sunday.

Demand for accommodation outside of term is always high and you must vacate your room by 10am on the last Saturday of term. You can request ‘vacation residence’ for a certain number of nights to complete academic work but this may be in a different room in College.

Our College site is split across many different levels with a wide variety of historic and modern buildings. We have 10 accessible bedrooms available for undergraduates and graduates and are committed to helping all students participate fully in College life. Applicants with disabilities or chronic health conditions are encouraged to contact the Admissions or Graduate Offices to discuss their requirements.

We reserve the right to move students from one room to another on-site during the year, if necessary. Such occasions are likely to be very rare but might, for example, be in order to undertake urgent maintenance or to release a particular room in order to meet special accommodation requirements for another student.

Smoking and vaping is prohibited in all bedrooms and permitted only at designated locations around the College site.
