Worcester College is delighted to announce that its next Chaplain will be Revd Marcus Green, currently Rector of Steeple Aston with North Aston and Tackley. Marcus will be joining Worcester from 1 July 2022.

Marcus brings a breadth of experience from almost 30 years as an Anglican priest working in large town parishes and small rural ones. He is on familiar territory as a college chaplain as he read history as an undergraduate at Merton College, Oxford, followed by theological study at Wycliffe Hall and time spent at Cambridge as a visiting scholar. A member of Steeple Aston Choral Society and Musical Director of a community big band, Marcus enjoys encouraging music-making in all forms and is used to leading large choral services or more contemporary worship. Marcus is committed to working with people of every faith and none, those from underrepresented backgrounds, and is well-known nationally for his advocacy of LGBTQ+ equality in the Church.

Following in the footsteps of the Interim Chaplain Matthew Cheung Salisbury, Marcus will lead the College services and play an important role in Worcester’s pastoral life.

Marcus says: ‘I am excited to be joining the community at Worcester. My life is based on the simple belief that God loves people – all people. Worcester is a place where people – all people, from whatever background or life experience – are welcomed and valued, and I look forward to playing my part in every aspect of College life.’

He brings a wealth of experience to College from his previous roles and his commitment to work with the whole Worcester community is especially welcome as we emerge from the pandemic and as Oxford continues its work to be more representative of society as a whole.’
