It is with great sadness that I learned yesterday of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

On behalf of Worcester College and the whole Worcester community, I would like to offer our condolences to the Queen’s family as we all celebrate the values of dignity, service and charity which she embodied for so long. As a mark of respect for her remarkable 70 years of service to the nation, the College will be flying the Union Flag at half mast until the Queen’s funeral.

At this significant moment in our history, the College Chapel is open to all as a quiet space of reflection. I invite all members of our community to sign the book of condolence available in the Chapel and join the Chaplain for a short service of prayers and reflection at 1:15pm today (Friday 9th September).

College events scheduled to take place during the period of national mourning will continue to go ahead, in accordance with the University and government guidance we have received. This includes the Jubilee Lunches on 16th September and the Gaudy on 17th September. I look forward to welcoming Old Members back to the College at these events, when we will also take the opportunity to pay our respects to the Queen and acknowledge her contribution to the country.

The University will be holding a service of thanksgiving and remembrance in due course, details of which will be available shortly. I would like to conclude by echoing the remarks of the Chancellor which are to be found in the below link.
