What are you looking for?

We work hard to ensure that every student at Worcester can achieve their full potential. If you have a disability or chronic health condition, we’ll work with you to ensure that you receive the support you need to complete your studies and participate fully in College life.

Our Head of Student Welfare, Georgie Heywood, is the College’s dedicated Disability Lead and Coordinator. She’s on hand to answer your questions and help manage any adaptations or additional support that you may need.

Worcester is conveniently located across the road from the University’s Disability Advisory Service, which offers a wealth of support and advice, including guidance on the Disabled Students’ Allowance. Georgie can help you register with the Disability Advisory Service and liaise with them about your Student Support Plan. This will help staff and tutors in College and your department to put in place the best support for you.

Accessible accommodation

Students with disabilities or medical conditions that require adjustments to accommodation are given priority in our room allocation process. We have several purpose-built accessible bedrooms available, offering level access, accessible bathrooms and emergency alarms. Students who are Blue Badge holders may be able to make use of our on-site disabled parking spaces if a car is required to support your access needs. To discuss your requirements, you should feel free to contact Georgie Heywood as Disability Coordinator.

Accessible resources

Our main Library reading rooms at Worcester are only accessible via an eighteenth-century spiral staircase with over 60 steps. If access to the Library is a problem, our friendly team are happy to deliver your books to you in a more convenient study space. It is also often possible to purchase extra copies of certain books so that students who can’t easily access the Library can read in their rooms.

Within the Library itself, we provide a variety of equipment to support students with disabilities, including a height-adjustable desk, ergonomic chair, book rests and visual aids. The Library team is always happy to make adaptations to support you: please contact the Assistant Librarian with any questions. In addition, you might be interested in the services of the Bodleian Libraries’ Accessible Resources Unit which helps students with visual impairments, dyslexia, chronic fatigue, and advises on access issues.
