Jennifer Walshe, Worcester’s Professor of Composition is to take up a residency at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 2023.

The 46th edition of the UK’s leading festival of new and experimental music takes place Friday 17 – Sunday 26 November, featuring a 10-day programme packed with over 50 performances, installations and exhibitions including World and UK Premieres from internationally renowned artists and musicians.

Professor Walshe’s residency at HCMF 2023 is part of a three-year partnership with Culture Ireland, giving Irish artists the opportunity to reach new audiences globally. The programme will encompass all aspects of her work including composition, installation, film, improvisation, artificial intelligence (AI) and performance. Described by The Irish Times as ‘the most original compositional voice to emerge from Ireland in the past 20 years’, her compositions and performances have been commissioned, broadcast and presented all over the world. Her 2020 album, A Late Anthology of Early Music Vol. 1: Ancient to Renaissance, was chosen as an album of the year by The Irish Times, The Wire and The Quietus.

‘Like many musicians, I’ve a long-standing relationship with the festival – I first came to Huddersfield in 2001 as a student,’ said Professor Walshe on her appointment. ‘It’s fantastic to be invited as the Composer in Residence, with a sense of the festival, the town, the audience.’
