Most successful boat club in Torpids 2023

Worcester College Boat Club took the river by storm, outshining all the other clubs to be the most successful overall in this year’s Torpids racing. Four crews qualified for the event and together they rose 20 places from their starting position. All of the crews went up the rankings and coveted blades were won by Men’s 1st Torpid, Men’s 2nd Torpid and Women’s 2nd Torpid, who bumped up 7 places into a brand-new division!

  • M1 bumped Oriel 2, Christ Church 2, Mansfield 1 and Somerville 1
  • W1 bumped St John’s 1, Linacre 1 and St Catz 1
  • M2 bumped Linacre 3, Osler House 1, Mansfield 2, Trinity 3, St Peter’s 3 and St Edmund Hall 3
  • W2 bumped Osler House 1, Regent’s 1, New 2, Linacre 2, Oriel 2, Christ Church 2 and Wolfson 3

Thank you to Olivia Bown-Mazzoni for taking photographs on the day.

This was an exceptional week for WCBC; since Covid, we've been building the club back up and training hard and it was really emotional to see all of our work finally paying off. To watch the club grow from one of the smallest on the river to this current success has been incredible. In addition to being the most successful college on the water, it seemed that we also had the loudest support on the bank from rowers and non-rowers across the college, which made it even more special. I'm really excited to see the club go on to further success in next term's Summer Eights and beyond.
