Distinguished Visiting Fellow opens new season for Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra

World-renowned pianist and Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Worcester College, Evgeny Kissin last night performed at Oxford Town Hall.

Opening the new season for Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, Kissin performed a new work composed and conducted by John Rutter. Described as a ‘giant of the Russian piano school’, Kissin also performed two masterpieces of the genre – Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 in D minor and Shostakovich’s Symphony No.5 in D minor. After the performance, it was our pleasure to host Evgeny and friends for a special post-concert dinner at Worcester.

“After a world class performance of major Russian works we were delighted to welcome Evgeny back to Worcester as one of our Distinguished Visiting Fellows. We were also able to hatch plans for his further visits to Oxford and how he will engage with our students.”
