Birthday Honour for Chief of MI6

Congratulations to Worcester alumnus Sir Richard Moore who has been knighted in the King’s first Birthday Honours list for services to National Security and British Foreign Policy.

Appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, Sir Richard is currently ‘C’, the Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) commonly known as MI6. His long career at both SIS and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has included postings in Vietnam, Turkey, Pakistan and Malaysia and service as Director General for Political Affairs and as HM Ambassador to Turkey (2014-17).

Sir Richard read Philosophy, Politics & Economics at Worcester College and subsequently won a Kennedy Scholarship for post-graduate study at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. With SIS not officially acknowledged until as late as 1994, Sir Richard made history upon his appointment in 2020 by becoming the first MI6 Chief to use Twitter.
