Provost's Garden

Stockhausen’s Stimmung

Music at Worcester presents London Voices.

In the summer twilight of Worcester College Provost’s Garden, an oasis of nature and calm at the heart of the city, London Voices perform Karlheinz Stockhausen’s cult classic Stimmung – a mystic circle of singers surrounded by the audience, a handful of magic words, and the transcendent wonder of the human voice.

Composed in 1968, this legendary and rarely performed work is one of the most extraordinary vocal sounds of the 20th century: a mixture of hypnotic meditation, mysticism, eroticism and magical esotericism. Stockhausen was a visionary whose music influenced musicians as diverse as Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Björk, and Miles Davis. Tonight, as the moon wanes in Aquarius, the virtuoso singers of London Voices recreate Stimmung anew, opening up a portal to another world.

Performance lasts c.80 mins. There will be some seating, but we encourage you to bring blankets and cushions and appropriate clothing. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will take place indoors.
