‘I Sang In My Chains Like The Sea’: New settings of Dylan Thomas
Christopher O’Gorman (tenor) and David Pipe (piano) with a pre-concert talk by Professor John Goodby.
This concert continues work on a project which commemorates the 70th anniversary of the death of Dylan Thomas by composing new settings of the Welsh poet’s work. With new compositions by David Lancaster, Sadie Harrison, Philip Grange, Rhian Samuel and Hayley Jenkins, the songs will be performed in Worcester’s intimate studio space by Christopher O’Gorman (tenor) and David Pipe (piano).
Professor John Goodby (Sheffield Hallam University), a leading authority on Dylan Thomas and editor of Thomas’ Collected Poems, has been collaborating with the composers and will introduce the poems at the concert. A CD recording of all the new songs will be produced in 2024 and a new biography of Thomas by John Goodby will follow.
Set beside the water of Worcester College’s famous lake, the Smethurst Studio is an intimate and calming space within the award-winning Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre.
Professor Goodby’s pre-concert talk will start at 6.45pm.
