City Nature Challenge Biodiversity Day

Help us to learn more about nature and wellbeing in the Worcester College gardens with our first biodiversity survey – a free, family-friendly day open to all.

You’ll help us to measure Worcester’s biodiversity using iNaturalist, an easy-to-use app which helps identify and log wildlife encounters. Each year, the City Nature Challenge allows cities around the globe to compare their biodiversity. Our special public event at Worcester is designed to get the College and wider Oxford community engaged with our grounds, at the same time helping to show us what you think is important about our ecology. Come and visit on Saturday 27th April between 10am and 4pm – we’d love to see you.

As part of our biodiversity initiative, participants are invited to share their insights during activities, enhancing our understanding of nature’s impact on wellbeing. Medical researchers and practitioners are increasingly recognising green spaces not only as therapeutic for physical and mental health but also as a preventative measure to enhance overall wellbeing. Worcester is excited to be a pioneering ‘Living Lab’ in this co-production with the E-Co-Flourishing project. The study looks into how humans and nature may support one another to the best of their abilities. By learning about our wildlife and how it makes people feel, we hope to continue providing excellent grounds to support the College community and allow us to ‘flourish’ together.

If you’d like to run a similar event at your own college or green space, please email Sustainability Research Assistant joseph.boyle@worc.ox.ac.uk for details on how to set up the digital platform.

Drop-ins on the day are welcome (10am-4pm) but you can also register your interest using the link below if you’d like to receive more information.
