The Oxford Choral Experience is a unique access programme offered free of charge to UK state school students looking to do ambitious singing at university.
We prioritise places for academically promising students from backgrounds under-represented at Oxford, offering them the opportunity to experience high-level music-making and make informed decisions about university applications.
What to expect
The first-of-its-kind weekend residential will:
- Introduce students to life at Oxford, exploring both the range of subjects available to study and the application process;
- Offer opportunities for high-level music-making in a College setting;
- Provide a singing lesson with one of the College’s singing teachers;
- Bring together students from across the UK to connect through academic and social activities;
- Inspire students to fulfil their ambitions and potential.
Led by Director of College Music Caius Lee, our team of friendly tutors, academic experts and student ambassadors will guide students through an exciting programme of academic and social activities. Please note that this is the first year The Oxford Choral Experience has taken place and the timetable is subject to change.
Weekend programme
We’ll start on Friday afternoon with a welcome lunch for students, parents and carers before our first rehearsal in the College Chapel. In the evening there’ll be icebreaker activities, dinner and compline, a service of chanted song. On Saturday we’ll learn more about the Oxford admissions process in a Q&A before more rehearsals and a music masterclass. Our student ambassadors will lead a tour of the beautiful city before we sing grace at a formal dinner. On Sunday, our rehearsals will lead up to a sung service in the Chapel.
