Applications are invited for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Ancient Philosophy at Worcester College, tenable from 1 October 2024 to 31st July 2025.

The lecturer will be required to give tutorials and classes for a number of first- and second-year courses, and should be able to offer teaching in Ancient Philosophy options. Further, in particular, the person appointed will be expected to teach one of first year papers (Logic, Moral Philosophy, General Philosophy) and ideally contribute to the teaching of Final Honours School papers in Ethics, with a teaching stint of up to 8 contact hours averaged across each term or a maximum of 12 weighted hours during term. Other duties of the post include setting and marking college exams (‘collections’); working with colleagues in contributing to the administration of Philosophy Joint Schools in the college, the academic oversight of Philosophy undergraduate students, and the undergraduate admissions round.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Arts degree (or equivalent) and be close to completing, or have completed, a doctoral degree in Philosophy, or another relevant subject.

Stipend will be in the range £20,325-£22,624 per annum (or equivalent pro rata), according to qualifications and experience. The lecturer will be entitled to 5 lunches and 3 dinners per week at Worcester College’s Common Table during term (when the kitchens are open).
