Angel's Trumpet
One of the Brugmansia (Datura) is putting on quite a dramatic display in the herbaceous border. This large plant has been covered in numerous flower buds that, since the beginning of the month (September), have unfurled enmasse to create a cascade of creamy-yellow trumpets. The effect, as can be seen from the photographs above, is a waterfall of yellow flowing down from a great height.
Commonly known as ‘Angel’s Trumpet’, this plant seems to be playing its own fanfare to the glory of the warm summer that has passed, or perhaps, it is heralding the start of a colourful autumn we can expect to see over the next few months.
