A home away from home

As well as a world-class education, you’ll be well-supported in your studies, live in comfortable and beautiful surroundings, and enjoy great company, great food, and great opportunities here.

Not only can you participate in the full spectrum of student life at Worcester, but we also arrange a series of special events and activities just for Visiting Students. At Worcester, it’s easy to make the most of your time in Oxford, whether it’s for a term (trimester) or a full academic year.

Travel to visit the rest of the UK is easy, too. We’re right across from the central bus station – with regular coaches to Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as to London and other major cities – and we’re about ten minutes’ walk from Oxford rail station which offers direct trains to London in under an hour – perfect for exploring all that England has to offer!

Accommodation

You’ll be living right at the heart of Worcester College alongside our thriving undergraduate community.

All our Visiting Students live on-campus within the College and benefit from single occupancy rooms with private en-suite bathrooms. You’ll also have access to a shared kitchen and Wi-Fi internet access, plus bed linens and light housekeeping will be provided.

Living in College means you’ll have easy access to our on-site gym, sports field, and tennis courts, as well as our beautiful gardens and lake. And with the city centre on your doorstep, you’ll be spoilt for choice with Oxford’s museums, theatres, cinemas, cafés, pubs, bars, and clubs.

Formal meal in dining hall

Catering

Our food has a great reputation across Oxford and also comes at an excellent price.

While you’re welcome to cook for yourself, nothing can beat eating with friends in our eighteenth-century dining hall. Three times a week we have “formal hall,” a special service with smart attire, Latin grace and delicious food, and a hallmark of the Oxford experience. At the end of the day you can relax in our Cellar Bar to enjoy cheap drinks, good company and fun events like the regular pub quiz.

At Worcester, we always offer vegetarian, vegan and halal options and work hard to accommodate your dietary requirements.

Sports, societies & excursions

We have all sorts of societies and sports to try out, as well as an active students’ union that you’ll be a part of.

With our on-site sports pitches, we’re well-known for our sports, but also for music and drama. If you’re here for Trinity Term, why not audition for a part in the Worcester Buskins’ summer play and be part of the legacy of Oxford’s oldest dramatic society?

Visiting Students at Worcester also enjoy an array of specially-organised activities and cultural events. There are regular formal dinners and receptions with people from across College, as well as a variety of excursions over the course of the year. Destinations might include the breathtaking Blenheim Palace (just outside of Oxford), London’s theatres and museums, performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, or Oxford’s own museums and activities, like punting on the Thames.

Finding support

We understand that being in a foreign country, far away from home, can sometimes be disorientating and stressful.

Worcester is a warm, welcoming community, and we’re dedicated to making sure you’re supported during your time with us. We have a professional welfare team, including a dedicated College Nurse and Counsellor, and graduate students who act as Junior Deans for out-of-hours help and emergencies.

Our Programme Director, Dr Michael Mayo, is available to advise all Visiting Students about both academic and personal matters and runs orientations for newly-arrived students.
