Online Academic Lecture Series: Dr Maximilian Lau
Join us for the next instalment of our Online Academic Lecture Series with speaker Dr Maximilian Lau, Junior Research Fellow in Medieval History, with his talk, Byzantium: New Endor.
The word ‘Byzantine’ evokes images of decadence, backstabbing politics and labyrinthine bureaucracy in English – and yet this state was one of the longest existing continuous government humans have ever had. This talk will both introduce this society, and discuss its continuing impact upon us; for example the role of Byzantine scholarship in the rise and fall of ISIS, populist leaders and multicultural societies in the world today.
This talk will be hosted by Lightbody Fellow & Tutor in History, Dr Conrad Leyser.
If you would like to join the live online lecture or receive a link to a recording of the talk, please register using the form below. Please note that if you are not an alumnus of the College, you must use this form to register instead.
