Think Big (Bradford)
Think Big is a programme of sustained engagement with students between Year 8 and 11 studying at state schools in Bradford, that aims to improve students' performance at school by engaging them with 'big questions' and giving them a taste of the kinds of subjects they might study at university. The programme takes the form of a series of challenging tutorial sessions organised in participating schools, a residential at Worcester College where the students will have the opportunity to engage with a number of different university subjects, and experience life as an Oxford student, as well as visits and sessions from Worcester academics and outreach staff and online mentoring by current undergraduate students.
The students are selected such that the programme benefits those who are among the most under-represented in higher education. 40% of the students who have taken part in the programme so far are eligible for Pupil Premium, 53% have no parental history of higher education and 74% live in the 40% most deprived areas in the country according to the IDACI scale.
