Ellie Kemper in Conversation

Introduced by the Provost, Sir Jonathan Bate CBE, Ellie Kemper, star of the comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, will be in conversation with Worcester’s JCR President Hannah Chukwu (2015, English) on Saturday 8th April 2017. The event will take place at the University Club, One West 54th Street, corner of 5th Avenue, New York, once again generously hosted by David Loevner (1976).

Conversation: 6 – 7 p.m.

Ellie Kemper (2002, English) is an actress, writer and comedian who plays the title role in the critically acclaimed Netflix comedy series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She is currently voicing the character of Phyllis in The Lego Batman Movie. Ellie became involved in theatre and comedy during high school and continued to perform whilst studying at Princeton University, graduating in 2002 with a degree in English. After moving to New York she joined the Upright Citizens Brigade, an improvisational sketch comedy troupe, and appeared in sketches for the Funny or Die comedy website, which was co-founded by Will Ferrell. In 2009 Ellie began appearing in The Office, for which she was nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2011 and 2013. She is also an SAG nominee for her performance in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and was nominated for an Emmy for the same role in 2016. Ellie’s film work has included 21 Jump Street and Bridesmaids, and she is a contributing writer to national satirical newspaper The Onion, as well as to The Huffington Post. Ellie is married to writer Michael Koman; the couple have a son, James, born in 2016.
