Provost's Seminar with Professor Michael L'Estrange

Tuesday 23rd February 2016

The Provost’s Seminar is an occasional series in which the intellectual life of the College is brought to the Lodgings. Typically, a Fellow, or sometimes a visitor, will talk about their research in a manner that is accessible and interesting to non-specialists. This term’s seminar will be Professor Michael L’Estrange, AO, Former Australian High Commissioner and Cabinet Secretary, Professor of National Security at the Australian National University and Honorary Fellow of Worcester College, speaking on “The Future of Diplomacy in a Changing International Order.”

Professor L’Estrange will be assessing the ways the pace and direction of change in the international economic and political environment are re-shaping diplomacy; the enhanced contestability, among advocates of “old” and “new” diplomacy, about the relevance of diplomacy’s purposes and practices; and proposals for change in how diplomacy is pursued. Professor L’Estrange will draw these various themes together by identifying the attributes which, in his view, will distinguish the most effective Foreign Ministries of the future in the years ahead.

The Seminar will be held in the Rose Garden Room at 1pm on Tuesday 23rd February. If you wish to attend, please contact the Development Office.
