As Director of Visiting Students, Dr Brian King is responsible for organising induction (orientation), providing academic and pastoral support, and arranging tuition (teaching) for all Junior Year Abroad students. He is the college official that visiting students are most likely to see on a regular basis. He plays an active part in helping students to settle in when they arrive and assists students if they have any problems during their time in Oxford.

The Director co-ordinates all activities relating to visiting JYA students, and directs the admissions process in conjunction with the Tutor for Admissions and relevant subject tutors. He oversees tutorial arrangements and accreditation, and liaises with Butler University Institute for Study Abroad, as well as with visiting students' home universities. Dr King also acts as ‘moral tutor’ to all JYA students (that is the person with overall responsibility for an individual’s academic progress and wellbeing). He is the first point of contact for visiting students with any queries, or encountering any difficulties during their time at Worcester College.

Over the course of the academic year, Dr King organises social events and cultural trips specifically for Junior Year Abroad students. The College is dedicated to meeting the particular needs of students spending their Junior Year Abroad at Worcester and many find it helpful to have a specific post devoted to their support.

Dr King is also a Tutor in Philosophy, having studied in America for his undergraduate degree and at Cambridge for his graduate degrees. He is a philosopher of mathematics, with specific interests in Kant and philosophical logic. He was previously a Junior Research Fellow and College Lecturer in Philosophy at Worcester College.
